Pothole Repair

Repairs that stay in the ground

Potholes start small, but every freeze and every wheel makes them bigger. We repair them on private roads, car parks, yards and driveways by cutting out the damaged area to a clean edge, filling with hot material and compacting it so the repair stays put.

The difference between a repair that lasts and one that pops out in a month is in the preparation: square, solid edges, a sound base, proper compaction and sealed joints so water cannot get back in. We do all four every time.

How we carry out pothole repair

From the first look at the ground to the final sweep, this is how the job runs.

  1. 1

    Inspect

We look at each pothole and the surface around it to decide the repair area.

The damaged surface is cut back to clean, square, solid edges.

  3. 3

    Step 3 of 4

  4. 4

    Step 4 of 4

  • Whether wider patching of the area is needed

  • How many repairs can be done in one visit

FAQs

Common questions about pothole repair

Can you repair just one pothole?

Yes. We quote for single repairs as well as for sites with many potholes. Grouping several repairs into one visit usually keeps the cost per repair down.

Do you repair potholes on public roads?

Public roads are the responsibility of the local council, so report those to them. We repair potholes on private land: private and unadopted roads, car parks, yards, drives and business premises.

Why do some pothole repairs fail so quickly?

Usually because material has been dropped into the hole without cutting back to sound edges, compacting properly or sealing the joints. Water gets in, freezes and lifts the patch out. We cut, compact and seal every repair.

Is it better to patch or resurface?

If the damage is limited to a few areas, patching is the sensible spend. When a surface is breaking up everywhere, repairs become a running cost and resurfacing is better value. We will tell you which we think applies.
